Reflection

Ice Cream

During this project, I learned a lot with textures and animation. More specifically, I learned how to open seperate menus with the textures and how to edit them, and in terms of animation, I learned how to animate completely using Maya.I learned it through trial and error, as well as through instructions given to us by Netterville and help from my peers. I picked this project because of how exciting it was to make, creating an animted 3D picture. I never imagined making a 3D animation in my life, but it was very beneficial nonetheless. The texturing and modeling of my own items was fun to do, and using trial and error to find extra buttons helped a long the way. My greatest strength with this project was how effectively I worked with the textures and how I tried working with each one. My weakness was probably not understanding how to model the scoop and some issues I had with actually animating it. I've improved from the first Maya project by knowing how to properly edit textures as well as add better lighting. Although I enjoyed learning about 3D animating, it's not something I would puruse. I most likely wouldn't do anything with what I've learned.I would change how timely I completed the assignment, as well as fixing certain textures details.

Pen

During this project, I learned how to mild select things as well as to pay attention to detail. I even experimented with vertex selecting and editing and different textures. I learned these things through help from Netterville as well as my own throught process. I picked this project because of the excitement and fun I had creating something in real life on my screen. There were a few flub ups, but the overall product was very well, in my opinion. My greatest strength was being able to figure out how to move vertexes. That saved me a lot of time instead of having to reshape and remold things. My weakness was working too quick and not fixing the tip of the pen as well as the shading/textures for a few pieces. I've improved from my first Maya project because I can shape things how I want to and even create more abstract shapes. This will help with more realism, since not everything is a solid shape. This knowledge I will take for future projects, but, again, I have no interest in pursuing in this field of animation. I would have changed one little mess up in the grippy and that would be a face being messed up. I would've also made the grippy more transparent.

Polything

I extremely enjoyed working on the polything. In this project, we made a polything and tested colors and lighting on the object. I learned these things through a tutorial Netterville provided and a bit of help from neighbors. I picked this project because it gave me a better understanding of how lighting works in Maya as well as how to make wholes in an object. My greatest strength with this project was choosing a nice color scheme and lighting choices. My weakness was, again, the time frame in which I got it done. I've improved from this point because I can use lighting more effectively while also knowing which colors look best. I will use this knowledge in future projects with Maya. If I could change something, it would've been the position of the rendered image. I don't like the angle it was put at.

Walk Cycle

This was one of my all time favorite projects so far because I love 2D animations. In this project, we created a walk cycle of a character drawn on paper with sharpie, scanned, and uploaded and created in photoshop. We then put the image, with legs on a seperate layer, in Premiere and made the character walk there.I learned a lot about keyframes in this specific lesson, something I hadn't used before, since I mainly do frame-by-frame. I got help from Netterville as well as peers in this project. I picked this project because I animated a character very dear to me and I loved creating him and watching him come to life, in a way. I enjoy making my 2D characters move in 3D ways. My greatest strength in this project was the quality of my character in reguards to coloring, especially without a tablet. My weakness was making the thighs too big and not able to move more freely, causing his walk motion to be very slow. I will use this lesson to improve my knowledge on 2D animating. I wish I could've changed the speed as well as the background image, it was very rushed and unclean.

Story Animation

Thought I didn't get this project finished, I enjoyed the process in starting the animation, nonetheless. In this project, we had to use all the things we learned in the 2D animation unit in one animation. I got  help from others around me and Netterville. I learned a lot about time management and storyboarding in this lesson. I chose this project because I spent a lot of time storyboarding this and planning a nice animation for this project, and I was planning on animating another dear character of mine. My greatest strength was how much dedication I put into the storyboard and the frames I got done. My greatest weakness was never finishing the project completely. I will take this knowledge in managing more time wisely as well as furthering my knowledge on 2D animating.
